THE RISING OF MIUCCIA PRADA

HOW DID BEING A FEMINIST CHANGE THE BRAND FOREVER?

Going back to 1970's, when Miuccia had taken over her family's succession originated by Mario Prada. The brand went through a transitional period of time, exploring a modern approach to the Italian luxury fashion. Prada began to sky rocket into the spotlight soon after, once the nylon backpacks with its notorious logo the silver-tone triangle had launched to the public. People began talking all around the world, this really established a great success to their early profits and the positive attitudes from the public began building the legacy of Prada forever.

However, Miuccia wasn't quite all satisfied just yet; as she began venturing out into other options. Launching the brand MIU MIU in 1992, had opened up doors to a more affordable line up of selection that had become more accessible at a cheaper price rate. She differentiates herself amongst other designers, by trusting her intellect and staying original in a world full of similarity. Miuccia challenged the norms of fashion, being one of the first designers to introduce sportswear on the runaway.

A powerful leader and vocalist, often speaking out on social injustice and using her platform to spread an impactful message. Prada's shows most often engage a story telling an act to the audience, inspiring philosophy, architecture and emerging designers. The garments are known for being minimalistic, inspired by the 1950's couture, geometric prints, knee-length skirts, bucket hats, tote bags, and other major accessories. Having  a sustainable amount of high quality products and ensuring you of the finest materials such as nylon, cotton, leather etc.

Often exploring femininity and desire, one of her shows contained banners discussing women's rights of freedom read as "Fashion is about the everyday and the everyday is the political stage of our freedoms". Vocalizing an issue in her shows is a great way to reach a larger audience. Personally, I fully support this movement as it sparks rebellion and her outspoken nature is used for the right reasons. Spreading awareness and not showing fear of any backlash speaks volume of her character. She challenges her role, isn't afraid to lose anything if she has to do what's right. But is it the right thing to do, whilst withholding a multi billionaire business?

Yes, definitely Miuccia has continued to pave her families success into a brighter light over the years. For that she is a respected business woman. Even without her running it. Prada would continue to carry on successfully for its important history and the mark it has left on the fashion industry for decades. The idea that "sex dolls" has also been  questioned, showcasing more refined and underwhelming looks, clean cuts, muted colors and rich fabrics. This made her designs flattering to the body but balancing it out with modesty. The balance of the two really settles the problem by not making the woman appear desperate, but rather confident and classy for their own approval and validation. Other artists/brands have been massively influenced by her aims for justice and empowerment. I believe she is a perfect example of a leader and whom everyone should take inspiration from to speak up.
